Sets of triangles, squares and circles allow comparing sizes in the range 1–10 cm and stacking shapes side by side as well as on top of each other. The child naturally practices distinguishing shapes and perceiving size relationships.
Each box has three separate compartments for easy sorting by color. The child develops independence, order in the work area, and orients themself in the material more quickly.
When arranging and layering, the child learns to recognize whether the shapes create a harmonious combination or whether something “doesn’t fit.” This feedback supports concentration and self-checking without the need for adult intervention.
Layered shapes are a classic Montessori activity focused on working with shapes and size gradation. By arranging and layering, the child creates their own patterns and gradually finds out how individual shapes complement each other or, on the contrary, “don’t match.”
