Each block develops a different comparison of sizes: change in diameter, change in height, or working with a constant diameter. Thanks to this, the child can progress step by step from simple sorting to more challenging tasks.
The child recognizes the correct solution on their own – the cylinder fits only into the corresponding hole. Handling the knob supports the three-finger grip, hand–eye coordination, and more precise movement.
The child naturally learns concepts such as thick–thin, tall–short, or big–small. The material engages multiple senses and supports concentration and independent work.
Cylinders with knobs are among the classic sensory materials of Maria Montessori. The child removes the cylinders and places them back into the precise holes, thereby naturally practicing hand–eye coordination, precision of movement, and visual discrimination of sizes. Error control is visual – the cylinder simply fits only into the correct hole.
The set contains 4 wooden blocks, each with 10 cylinders with knobs (40 pieces total). The individual blocks are designed so that the child progresses from simpler comparisons to more demanding ones (in the 4th block, the child compares the height of the cylinder with the depth of the hole, which is not obvious at first glance).
